Salina Stockade Pull Away Late to Beat Bakersfield Blues 8-3

February 7 2019 The Salina Stockade defeated the Bakersfield Blues 8-3 after breaking open a close game with four runs in the eighth inning and two more in the ninth. Salina finished with six hits while Bakersfield collected three.

Salina took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, and the Blues answered with one run in the fourth. Each team scored once in the seventh before the Stockade surged ahead in the eighth. Salina’s T. Zeutenhorst hit a home run and drove in three runs, while P. Pena added a double and one RBI. Zeutenhorst finished with two hits, and D. Clark scored twice and drew two walks.

A. Neff earned the win for Salina with seven innings of three-hit ball, allowing two runs, one earned, while striking out 10 and walking one. C. Fletcher followed with a scoreless eighth inning and one strikeout. B. Isaac took the loss for Bakersfield after allowing four runs on one hit and four walks in one inning.

C. Poje led Bakersfield with two hits, two runs and one RBI. The Blues also received RBI from R. Navarro and C. Kelly, but Salina’s late scoring completed the 8-3 victory.
