Wichita Wingnuts 4 Salina Stockade 1

This game was played on 9/4/2017 at Lawrence Dumont Stadium

WICHITA, Kans. (September 4, 2017) – The Wichita Wingnuts scored three in the third and that proved to be enough as they wrapped up the regular season with a 4-1 sweep-clinching win over the Salina Stockade Monday afternoon at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.

After both teams went down in order in the first two frames, Salina (18-81) put two on in the top of the third, but Tyler Kane (12-1) turned them away to keep the contest scoreless. The Wingnuts (61-38) grabbed the lead in the home half. Jacob Morris tripled to right to plate a pair and then scored on a Christian Stringer sacrifice fly.

The Stockade picked up their lone run of the afternoon in the fifth. With two outs, Jimmy Heck doubled, and then came around on a Javion Randle single.

The fifth was the final frame for Kane, who allowed just four base runners over five innings to earn his team-leading 12th win of the season.

The Wingnuts added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth. With two outs, Richard Prigatano singled, stole second and was brought home on a Brennen Salgado single to stretch the lead to three.

Following Kane, Josh Goossen-Brown worked a pair of scoreless frames, Mike Devine faced the minimum in the eighth, and Ryan Kussmaul retired Salina in order in the ninth to lock down his fourth save.

The Wingnuts finish the regular season 61-38, half a game behind the Winnipeg Goldeyes for the leagues best record. Wichita also went 37- 16 at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.

The Wingnuts begin the first round of the American Association playoffs on Wednesday night at U.S. Steel Yard against the Gary SouthShore RailCats. First pitch for Game 1 is set for 7:10 p.m., and the game will be broadcast on 1410 AM/93.9 FM KGSO, TuneIn and www.americanassociationbaseball.tv.

Sealeys Walkoff Single Clinches Series vs. Salina

08/30/2017 3:35 PM - GRAND PRAIRIE -- The AirHogs cliched their 4-game series vs. Salina Wednesday at AirHogs Stadium, scoring a 4-3 walkoff win in 11 innings. Trevor Sealey proved to be the hero when he sent a base hit up the middle to plate Ryan Wagner with 2 outs and 2 strikes in the 11th.

TJ Bozeman started for the AirHogs and threw a season-high 124 pitches in becoming the staffs 1st starter this season to go a full 9 frames. He allowed only 6 hits and notched 8 strikeouts in the complete game performance. He made 1 mistake, allowing a 5th inning 3-run home run to Javion Randle that briefly gave the Stockade the lead but kept the visiting offense under wraps the rest of the way.

The AirHogs gained the initial advantage on a home run by Charley Thurber off Salina starter Josh Hodges in the 2nd. The solo blast was the 2nd in the last 4 games for Thurber and his 6th of the season.

Casio Grider reached with a leadoff triple to begin the 4th and came in on an RBI sacrifice fly by Levi Scott. Grider finished with 4 hits, and the RBI for Scott was his 8th in the last 5 games.

Randles homer off Bozeman turned a 2-0 AirHogs lead into a 3-2 deficit, but Texas quickly bounced back. Thurber picked up a 2nd RBI on a 2-out base hit vs. Hodges to score Grider and tie the game at 3 in the 6th.

Luis De La Cruz pitched both extra innings for the AirHogs, stranding 1 in scoring position in each frame to give the bats a chance to win it. In the 11th, Sealey would do just that. After Ryan Wagner boarded with a walk and Beamer Weems reached on the games only error, Salina reliever Cody Strayer committed a key balk to make it 2 in scoring position. Down to his last strike, Sealey registered his 2nd hit of the game, a walkoff single to center to score Wagner.

The extra-inning win was the 4th of the season for Texas. The walkoff was the teams 3rd of the season. All 3 have come this month vs. Salina. The game was the 2nd that has gone 11 innings since Sunday for the AirHogs.

De La Cruz moved to 1-5 with the win. He has now registered 4 straight scoreless appearances. Hodges, who went 7 innings while striking out 8 to match his season high, took a no-decision. Strayer slipped to 1-2 with the loss.

Texas (41-54) wraps the season series vs. Salina (18-77) tomorrow. 1st pitch is slated for 5:05 pm. RHP Kevin Hilton (0-2, 5.26 ERA) is expected to start for the AirHogs. LHP Troy Mannebach (2-6, 5.05 ERA) is expected to start for Salina. A live stream of the game will be available at mixlr.com/TXAirHogs and American Association Baseball TV.

CLEBURNE, Texas -- Ed Pruitt retired the side in order in his first professional pitching appearance in 30 years, but the Cleburne Railroaders lost 5-2 to the Salina Stockade in the home finale at The Depot on Sunday night.

Pruitt, pitching for the first time since he was in the New York Mets organization from 1982-1987, induced a flyout and a pair of groundouts against the heart of the Salina order. He is believed to be the oldest pitcher in American Association history.

Cleburne finished with just five hits, and two came in the first inning. After a Maikol Gonzalez walk and a Mitch Glasser double, Nick Van Stratten opened the scoring with an RBI infield single.

The Railroaders then went hitless until Mitch Abeitas leadoff single in the seventh, and the Stockade scored twice on Javeon Randles two-out single in the second and three more times on Fernando Garzas bases-clearing, two-out double in the fourth.

Pinch-hitter Pichi Balet came up as the tying run after Alex Polston drove in a run with an infield single in the ninth, but with two outs Balet hit a fly ball to the wall in left for the final out of the game.

Cleburne did work seven walks, and five came in the fifth and sixth innings. But the Railroaders stranded four across those two innings, and wrapped up the 60-game home schedule an even 30-30.

Gonzalez extended his on-base streak to 14 with a leadoff walk in the first, and all but one Cleburne starter reached safely.

Railroaders starter Dylan Mouzakes gave up five runs over 5.1 innings, but the Cleburne bullpen combined for 3.2 scoreless innings of relief.

Salina starter Connor Bach, who carried an 8.01 ERA through 57.1 innings into Sunday night, gave up just one run over six innings and earned his second win of the year -- both at The Depot.

Cleburne now hits the road for a season-ending seven-game roadtrip beginning with three games against the Wichita Wingnuts starting Tuesday. First pitch time from Lawrence-Dumont Stadium is 7:05 and can be heard live on the Railroader Radio Network.

Blake Grant-Parks also doubled in a run and scored, while Cleburnes 7-8-9 hitters reached five separate times and scored four of the five runs.

Alberto Rodriguez threw six innings and gave up one run with no walks and six strikeouts, while Roby Romero went six up, six down in his Cleburne debut. Casey Upperman worked a scoreless ninth inning with a pair of strikeouts.

Axel Johnson went 1-for-4 with a single and a run scored, and Mitch Glasser finished 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI. Gonzalez went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

CLEBURNE, Texas -- Laetten Galbraith went seven scoreless innings, and the Cleburne Railroaders shut out the Salina Stockade 3-0 at The Depot on Friday night.

Galbraith gave up just four hits with one walk and one strikeout, while Cortland Cox pitched a scoreless eighth and Winston Abreu added his league-leading 22nd save after working around a pair of singles to begin the ninth.

Cleburne scored first on Axel Johnsons two-out RBI single in the sixth, and the Railroaders padded the lead with Nick Van Strattens RBI triple in the eighth, followed immediately by Geraldo Valentins run-scoring single.

Salina starter Josh Hodges gave up three runs on eight hits over eight innings, and the former Railroader has now given up just four runs over the last 15 innings against Cleburne.

Cleburne won for the 12th time in 18 games, and one more win in the series will ensure at least a .500 home record in 2017.

Hunter Courson led off the eighth with a double -- his first hit since Aug. 1 -- while pinch-hitting for Maikol Gonzalez, who left the game following an awkward slide at home scoring the games first run in the sixth.

Sioux Falls, SD – The Sioux Falls Canaries walked-off to beat the Salina Stockade, 8-7, in 11 innings at Sioux Falls Stadium on Sunday in front of a crowd of 3,016. The Stockade took the early lead against Troy Marks and the Canaries with a run in the top of the second before the Birds came right back in the bottom of the frame to take the lead. Chris Jacobs leadoff single and Patrick Fialas walk put runners on first and second for Blake Schmit, who knocked in both with a two-run single. The Birds would load the bases later in the frame, but theyd leave them loaded against Salinas Josh Hodges, one of the three times the Canaries left the bases loaded on Sunday.

Burt Reynolds two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth extended the Birds lead to 4-1, but Marks ran into some trouble in the next inning and the Stockade took the lead.

Salina sent eight batters to the plate in the top of the fifth a

Sioux Falls, SD – Grady Wood didnt allow a baserunner to reach after the third inning, and the Sioux Falls Canaries topped the Salina Stockade, 2-1, Saturday night at Sioux Falls Stadium in front of 3,087.

Wood pitched his second-straight complete game for the Canaries, allowing just one run on two hits while striking out 10 batters.

The Stockade scored their lone run of the game against Wood in the top of the second. Jesse Baker led off the frame with a double and came around to score on Fernando Garzas single, but Wood got Logan Trowbridge to ground into a double play to get out of a jam.

And after walking Jimmy Heck to leadoff the third, Wood didnt allow a base runner the rest of the game, retiring the next 20 batters.

Brian Smith also put together a complete game for the Stockade and allowed just one hit over the first five frames.

Grider AirHogs Score Walkoff Win vs. Salina

08/14/2017 10:25 PM - GRAND PRAIRI

08/14/2017 10:25 PM - GRAND PRAIRIE -- The Texas AirHogs scored a dramatic opening win in the 3-game set vs. Salina Monday, walking off the Stockade on a game-winning single by Casio Grider. His clutch base hit helped the AirHogs to overcome a 5-3 9th frame deficit and walk away as 6-5 winners. TJ Bozeman turned in another brilliant performance on the mound as the Texas starter, going 7 innings while scattering 5 hits and allowing just an unearned run. He struck out a season-high 11 in the no-decision, becoming the 5th Texas pitcher this year to strike out 10 in a ballgame.

An RBI single by Roche Woodard put Salina on top in the top of the 3rd before Trevor Sealey evened the score in the bottom half by scoring on a wild pitch from Salina starter Josh Hodges. Hodges would end up going 7.1 innings, allowing 3 hits and 2 runs (2 earned). He also took a no-decision.

After Salina tagged Josh Blanco for an unearned run in the top of the 8th, the AirHogs launched their 2nd comeback of the evening, earning the lead on an RBI sacrifice fly by Levi Scott and an RBI infield single by Denis Phipps. Salina struck right back in the top of the 9th, tying the game at 3 before a throwing error by Grider led to 2 runs and gave them a 5-3 advantage.

Ryne Willard knocked home Charley Thurber with 1 out vs. Tyler Herr in the top of the 9th to get Texas back within 1. After Willard and lead runner Alvaro Rondon combined for a daring double steal, Grider took a 3-2 Herr offering to left for a 2-RBI base hit that would win the game. The walkoff was the 1st of the season for the AirHogs.

Tasin improved to 1-1 with the win. The loss moved Herr to 1-2 on the season. The AirHogs (32-48) and the Stockade (14-66) meet again tomorrow at 3:05 pm. RHP Scott Firth (2-5, 5.36 ERA) is expected to start for the AirHogs. LHP Troy Mannebach (2-5, 4.81 ERA) is expected to start for Salina. A live stream of the game will be available at mixlr.com/TXAirHogs and American Association Baseball TV.

Tickets for the AirHogs current 10-game homestand are available. Email info@texasairhogs.com for more details. For the latest news on the AirHogs, follow the team on Facebook and Twitter @TXAirHogs.

08/13/2017 3:46 PM - KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Kansas City T-Bones fell 11-6 in the series finale to the Salina Stockade on Sunday afternoon at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. The Stockade notched 15 hits in the victory. In the final matchup between in-state rivals, Salina and Kansas City, the Stockade attempted to take an early lead in the first inning. First baseman Kewby Meyers putout brought in the first run to give Salina a 1-0 lead. The T-Bones responded, however, with three runs in the second inning. Left fielder, Dexter Kjerstad, launched a triple to deep center field to score center fielder, Cedric Hunter, and right fielder, Kyle Petty, to take a 2-0 lead. Kjerstad made it home to end the inning at 3-1 thanks to a putout by shortstop Jerome Pena. An error by newly signed left-handed pitcher, Billy Waltrip (1-5, 3.86) in the third, allowed the Stockade to tie the game up at three runs a piece. Center fielder, Roche Woodard scored off of the error and third baseman, Jordan Caillouet, stole second and then advanced to third off of a wild pitch. Caillouet then scored off of left fielder, Jonathan M

CLEBURNE, Texas -- Maikol Gonzalez reached three more times, but Salina scored early and often in a 6-2 win at The Depot on Friday night.

Gonzalez reached three times after three walks in the series opener on Thursday, but the Railroaders stranded eight runners and fell to 6-5 in their last 11 games against the Stockade.

Salina scored once in the second before back- to-back homers in the third, and Kewby Meyer singled in two more after an RBI groundout in the fifth.

Cleburne wasted leadoff singles in the fourth and sixth innings before loading the bases with nobody out in the seventh, and the Railroaders came away with just one run on an RBI groundout in the inning.

Geraldo Valentin went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored, and Mitch Glasser reached twice in his first game since July 28.

Mitch Abeita went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles in his second start with Cleburne.

Railroaders starter Jordan Chudacoff, making his first start in the American Association, gave up six runs on five hits over 4.1 innings. Bryce Beeler finished the night with 4.2 scoreless innings in relief.

Josh Hodges, making a third start against his former club, gave up just one run on six hits over seven innings.

Game 3 of the four-game set is scheduled for Saturday. First pitch is set for 7:06 p.m. and can be heard live on the Railroaders Radio Network with the pregame show beginning 20 minutes prior.

Good seats for the current 14-game homestand are still available and can be purchased at www.railroaderbaseball.com or by visiting the box office located near the main gate at The Depot.

Saint Paul Saints 5 Salina Stockade 3

The St. Paul Saints did just enough on Saturday night at CHS Field to win their second consecutive game. Brady Shoemakers two-run homer was the difference and the bullpen locked it down at the end in a 5-3 victory over the Salina Stockade in front of 8,523. The win improved the Saints to 33-27 and are now within 1.0 game of first place in the North.

The Stockade jumped out in front 2-0 on Saints starter Ryan Zimmerman, using the long ball in the second to get on the board. Cody Coffman hit a solo homer to right, his eighth of the season, to make it 1-0.

In the fourth Coffman led off with a single to left-center and, with one out, Troy Paris doubled him home to make it 2-0. Zimmerman went 5.1 innings allowing two runs on six hits while walking three and striking out four.

The Saints offense used the middle three innings to do their damage tying the game up in the fourth. Three straight singles to center plated the first run as Tony Thomas, Kes Carter and Maxx Garrett, the latter knocking in the run, helped make it 2-1. With runners at first and second and nobody out Jon Kristoffersen sacrificed the runners over. Breland Almadova tied it at two with an RBI groundout.

In the fifth Shoemaker roped a double off the right-center field wall and, with one out, Nate Hansons single to center scored Shoemaker to give the Saints a 3-2 lead.

Shoemaker would come calling again in the sixth. Following a walk to Mitch Delfino, Shoemaker crushed a two-run homer to right, his 15th of the season, giving the Saints a 5-2 lead. Shoemaker finished 3-5, a triple shy of the cycle with two RBI and two runs scored.

In the seventh the Stockade got to within two on a solo home run from Jordan Caillouet, his seventh of the season, off of reliever Brandon Peterson.

Vinny Nittoli tossed the final 1.2 innings to earn his first save allowing just one hit while walking one and striking out four of the five recorded outs.

The same two teams meet in the finale of the three game series on Sunday evening at 5:05 p.m. The Saints send RHP Mark Hamburger (9-2, 3.15) to the mound against Stockade LHP Troy Mannebach (1-2, 3.57). The first 2,000 fans in attendance receive a replica Pigs Eye Jersey presented by Regions Hospital. It is also Peanut Free Night. The game can be seen on the Saints Cable Network, cable access channels in and around the Twin Cities, and heard on Club 1220 KLBB.

Saint Paul Saints 10 Salina Stockade 2

The St. Paul Saints found a cure for what ails them. On their schedule is a three game series against the Salina Stockade, who entered play 9-49, but who were coming off of a sweep of a three game series against the Sioux City Explorers. The Saints made sure the same wouldnt happen to them as they blasted four home runs and snapped a five game losing streak with a 10-2 victory over the Stockade on Friday night at CHS Field in front of 8,548.

With the Saints down 1-0 in the bottom of the second Nate Hanson started the inning with a double to straightaway center. With one out Kes Carter walked and that brought up Maxx Garrett who was one for his last 26 and did not have a hit in his last 16 at bats. He crushed a three-run homer to left, his third of the season, making it 3-1 Saints.

In the third Anthony Gallas, known for his power, blasted a solo shot over the left field wall, his 15th of the season, to make it 4-1.

It stayed that way until the sixth when the Saints put up five runs to blow the game open. Gallas led off with a single to center, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Hanson flew out to right and Gallas bluffed tagging up. The right fielder Jimmy Hecks throw home went to the backstop, Gallas raced home from third and scored as pitcher Josh Hodges picked the ball up, threw back to the plate, but his throw was way off line. With two outs Carter and Garrett walked. Jon Kristoffersen made it 6-1 with an RBI single to right. Breland Almadova followed that with a three-run homer to left-center, his second of the season, to make it 9-1.

The Saints scored their final run in the seventh, a solo shot from Hanson, his eighth of the season, to make it 10-1.

Saints starter Benji Waite, the league leader in ERA at 1.93, did nothing to hurt that status. The lone run he gave up came in the second inning when Cody Coffman singled with one out. Jesse Baker doubled him to third and, with two outs, Waite walked Jordan Caillouet and hit Logan Trowbridge with the bases loaded.

Waite allowed just one more hit during his 6.0+ innings giving up one run on four hits while walking four and striking out five to earn his third win of the season and lower his ERA to 1.87.

The same two teams meet on Saturday night at CHS Field at 7:05 p.m. in game two of the three game series. The Saints send RHP Ryan Zimmerman (3-4, 5.40) to the mound against Stockade LHP Brian Smith (1-8, 7.62). We salute Mystery Science 3000 presented by The College of St. Scholastica. The game can be seen on the Saints Cable Network, cable access channels in and around the Twin Cities, and heard on BOB FM.

Jul 9 2017 12:00AM

The Texas AirHogs entered Sundays g

The Texas AirHogs entered Sundays game red hot, winners of four in a row and seven of their last eight. A night after winning 11-3 they had to be feeling pretty good about their chances as Salina Stockade starter Josh Hodges had really struggled in his first two starts, but Sunday he was in complete command, allowing just one-run in 6.1-innings pitched leading the Stockade to the 5-1 victory. Five different players scored runs for the Stockade, and Cody Coffman drove in 2.

Todd Bozeman started for Texas, and he found himself trailing heading out of the first frame. Aaron Olivas singled to start the game and moved to second when Troy Paris drew the base-on-balls. Next up was Kewby Meyer, who lined a single into right field that plated Olivas. Two batters later, Jesse Baker grounded a single into right field that scored Paris to extend the lead to two.

The AirHogs looked to get those two runs back in the bottom half of the inning when a pair of singles put runners at the corners with two down. However, Hodges was able to get out of it by getting a line out to end the threat. That started a run of seven straight batters retired by the right-hander.

Josh Hodges: W (1-1), 6.1-IP, 7-H, R, 3-BB, 3-K

Texas had threatened at times, but Hodges always seemed to have the answer to keep them off the board. That is until the seventh, when the AirHogs would finally score to cut the deficit to one. Michael Miller hit a ball deep into the hole at short that he beat out for a single with one down. Ryne Willard followed by drawing a walk and that would be it for Josh Hodges (1-1). The right-hander went 6.1-innings, allowing 7-hits, 3-walks and a run. He struck out 3.

Jake Eaton came on for Salina, and gave up a base hit to Alvaro Rondon that loaded the bases with one out. A sacrifice fly by Trevor Sealey scored Miller to make it 2-1, but that is as close as they would get.

Clinging to a one run lead, the Salina Stockade what extend their advantage by responding with two runs in the top of the eighth. With Josh Blanco on the hill, Meyer singled with one out and moved to third on a base hit by Jimmy Heck. Baker grounded out to move Heck to second, and both runners scored when Coffman lined a single into left-center to extend the lead to three.

Kewby Meyer: 2-5, R, RBI

In the ninth, Salina would add one more run. A base hit by Jonathan Moroney started the inning, and he would score when Jordan Caillouet lined a double down the right field line that brought Moroney all the way around from first. That made the score 5-1, which would be the final.

Tyler Herr came on in the eighth and tossed two scoreless innings despite giving up a hit and 4-walks. He recorded his second save of the season. Kewby Meyer was 2-5 with a run and an RBI, raising his average to .336. Jordan Caillouet also had 2-hits and drove in a run, and Cody Coffman drove in 2. Alvaro Rondon and Ryan Wagner each had 2-hits for Texas.

The Stockade are off tomorrow before starting a three-game series with Lincoln. First pitch on Tuesday is scheduled for 6:45.

Salina Stockade will not play in Pecos League for 2017 season

The Salina Stockade will not play i

The Salina Stockade will not play in the 2017 season in the Pecos League. The Pecos League will have a travel team in California called the Hollywood Stars. They will use historic Griffith Park in Los Angeles as their home.

The City of Salina did a great job in welcoming and accommodating the Pecos League. The Host families and supporting staff were top notch all the way around. The city actually had 20 dates in which the Stockade could play home games. With realignment the Pecos League could only make 11 of these dates work.

Logistics is the issue with not be able to come back to Salina. When the Pecos League moved to Salina in 2016 there were teams in Great Bend and Topeka. Both teams were failures and will not be back in the league in 2017. Despite promises that the Pecos League would have a team in Amarillo, the Potter County Judge has decided that want no baseball in Amarillo.

The Pecos League will operate 12 teams with a Pacific Division: (Bakersfield, High Desert, California City, Monterey, Tucson and Hollywood) and a Mountain Division (Garden City, Trinidad, Santa Fe, Roswell, White Sands and Alpine)

At the conclusion of the 2017 season the Pecos League will attempt to bring the Stockade back for the 2018 season.

The Majority of the Stockade players along with field manager David Peterson will remain in Kansas and play for the Garden City Wind.

There will be one game in Salina in the 2017 season. On May 17th the Garden City Wind will host the Lincoln Saltdogs at Dean Evans Stadium at 2 PM.

The Lincoln Saltdogs are in the American Association of Professional Baseball Clubs and this game will serve as their final Spring Training Game before they open with the Kansas City T-Bones on May 19th.
