About the Salina Stockade

Founded in 2016 the Salina Stockade

Founded in 2016 the Salina Stockade are the only team in baseball history to play in four leagues in four years. The name Stockade refers to the Stockade that was built around Salina, Kansas in the early 1900s that could not be penetrated by enemy forces. The Stockade are the only team in independent baseball history to play in three different leagues in three consecutive years. The Stockade have always been a travel team with limited or no home games. In 2016 and 2017 the Stockade called Salina, Kansas home and played home games at Dean Evans Stadium in Salina, Kansas. The Stockade are owned and operated by the Pecos League with Andrew Dunn serving as director. David Peterson has been on all coaching staff in some capacity. The teams colors are Navy Blue, Royal Blue, Powder Blue, Silver and White.

For the 2019 season, The Salina Stockade will serve as the Travel Team in the Pacific Association of Professional Baseball Clubs. The Stockade will not play any home games. The Pacific Association of Baseball Clubs in a six team professional baseball league in San Francisco Bay Area that was founded in 2012. Teams in the Pacific Association are the San Rafael Pacifics, Sonoma Stompers, Vallejo Admirals, Napa Silverados.

In the 2018 season, the Salina Stockade served as one of two international teams in the CanAm League. The CanAM League is based in Quebec and Metro New York City. The Stockade replaced the Cuban National Team who had served as the International Travel Team in 2017. The Stockade played an 18 game schedule playing each of the full time Can Am League Teams three times. The teams in the Can Am League were the Rockland Boulders, Sussex Miners, New Jersey Jackals, Quebec Capitales, Trois Riveres Aigles, Ottawa Champions. The Stockade completed the season with a 4-14 record playing many close games.

In the 2017 season, the Salina Stockade served as the replacement travel team in the American Association of Professional Baseball Clubs. The American Association is a 12 team league that followings I-35 through the heart of the United States. The teams in 2017 were the Winnipeg Gold Eyes, Fargo Morehead Redhawks, St Paul Saints, Sioux Falls Canaries, Sioux City Explorers, Gary Railcats, Lincoln Saltdogs, Texas Airhogs, Cleburne Railroaders, Wichita Wingnuts, and Kansas T-Bones. The Stockade replaced the Laredo Lemurs one week before the season. The Stockade completed the season with an 18-72 record. The Stockade played eight games at home at Dean Evans Stadium in Salina, Kansas. In 2018 the Chicago Dogs entered as an expansion team to give the league a balanced number of teams. In 2019 the Milwaukee Milkmen replaced the Wichita Wingnuts to keep the league balanced at 12 teams.

In the 2016 season, the Salina Stockade served as the travel team in the Pecos League. The Stockade played 10 home games against the Great Bend Boom and Topeka Train Robbers at Dean Evans Stadium. Dean Evans was heavily used as was not available to host series only individual games. The Stockade narrowly missed the playoffs having one the leagues best pitching staffs and worst offenses.

This was the final game of the Peco

This was the final game of the Pecos Spring League. Most notably the game was played with a 62.5 foot mound. The game was a 7-3 final and by the 4th inning pitchers had fully made an adjustment. Cip Garza and Brett Marshall threw excellently as starters...

The following coaches/players were interviewed and gave their feedback on 62.5 foot mound. Cip Garza "I have had some control issues in my lifetime, the 62.5 foot mound didnt effect me I actually walked less people than I have on a 60.5 foot mound."

Salina took a 3-0 lead in the first inning, but Houston answered with nine runs in the second to take control. The Apollos added two runs in the fourth and two more in the sixth, while Salina was held scoreless after the opening inning.

Ju Tejada led Houston with two hits and three RBI. J. Tejada scored three runs and drove in two, while J. Stalnaker also had two RBI. M. Satoshi went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and A. Mcintyre was 1-for-1 with an RBI. Bryan Kloppe was credited with the win, and Chance Miranda took the loss for Salina.

April 1 2019 The Houston Apollos defeated the Salina Stockade 2-1 after scoring twice in the first inning and holding Salina to one run. Salina scored once in the opening frame, but neither team added to its total over the final six innings. Houston finished with eight hits while Salina had three.

D. Williams led Salina with two hits, including a double and a triple, and drove in the Stockade’s only run. Houston’s J. Pulcheon, E. Stanberry and J. Tejada each collected two hits, while Stanberry and R. Jadallah recorded the Apollos’ two RBIs.

Houston starter T. Herr allowed two hits and one earned run while striking out nine and walking two in three innings. B. Marshall earned the win with four scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out four. Salina’s R. Jimenez took the loss after allowing eight hits and two earned runs with three strikeouts in six innings.

Sonoma, California-For the 2019 season, The Salina Stockade will serve as the Travel Team in the Pacific Association of Professional Baseball Clubs. The Stockade will not play any home games. The Pacific Association of Baseball Clubs is a five team professional baseball league in San Francisco Bay Area that was founded in 2012. Other teams in the Pacific Association are Sonoma Stompers, Napa Silverados, Vallejo Admirals, San Rafael Pacifics

The roster will consist of players that played for the Salina Stockade in the CanAm League in 2018 as well as players who played in the Pecos League in 2018. The Stockade will offer two public tryout camps for players. One will be May 18 in Griffith Park in Los Angeles. The other will be May 28 in Monterey, California at Sollectio Park.

The Salina Stockade Roster will be released May 29 and the Schedule will be released April 1. All Team information will be viewable at http://www.SalinaStockade.com

March 29 2019 The Houston Apollos defeated the Salina Stockade 11-0 in a five-inning game. Houston scored in every inning, building a 2-0 lead in the first before adding four runs in the second, two in the third, two in the fourth and one in the fifth.

Houston collected 12 hits and capitalized on three Salina errors. G. Mack led the Apollos with two hits and three RBI, while E. Stanberry had two hits and two RBI. M. Satoshi added a hit and two RBI, and R. Jadallah finished with two hits and one RBI. Houston also drew five walks and did not strike out.

Z. Zinecola was credited with the win for Houston, and B. Harbors took the loss for Salina. The Stockade managed two hits and struck out eight times while being held scoreless.

The Apollos outlast the Salina Stoc

The Apollos outlast the Salina Stockade 18-13 in a day where the wind was blowing straight out to CenterField. With the game tied at 12 in the 5th inning, Bryan Kloppe setup the first triple play in Pecos Spring League history. Getting Taylor Downey to lineout to 3rd base where threw out Manny Lujan at first base. Daniel Williams attempted to score on the throw to first and was thrown out at home. The Stockade took a 13-12 but the Apollos struck in the 6th with Andrew Dunns bases loaded single giving them the lead and Miyata Satoshi home run put the game out of reach.

Roberto Jimenez started for Salina he pitched 4 innings allowing 13 hits and 12 runs. Johnny Ramirez pitched a scoreless inning for the Stockade. Chance Miranda took the loss for the Stockade he pitched the sixth inning allowing 6 runs on 2 walks and 3 hits.

Andrew Dunn started for Apollos he pitched 5 innings allowing 14 hits and 12 runs. Bryan Klopped pitched 2 innings to get the win with one strikeout and 0 walks.

March 25 2019 The Houston Apollos defeated the Salina Stockade 8-2 after scoring four runs in the first inning and three more in the second. Houston finished with seven hits and no errors, while Salina collected three hits and committed six errors.

Houston opened the scoring with four runs in the first, highlighted by run-scoring singles from Rami Jadallah and Edwin Stanberry and a two-run single by Jose Tejada. The Apollos added three unearned runs in the second, with Scott Gamble and Tejada each contributing to the rally. Edwin Stanberry went 2-for-2 with three runs and one RBI, Jose Tejada had two hits and two RBI, and Scott Gamble scored twice with one hit and one RBI.

Salina scored both of its runs in the fourth inning when Daniel Williams hit a two-run home run. Williams finished 1-for-3 with two RBI, while Colton LaVergne went 1-for-3 and scored once.

Cip Garza earned the win for Houston after allowing one hit and no runs in three innings with two walks and six strikeouts. Aaron Mcintyre followed with three innings, allowing two runs on two hits while striking out six, and Anthony Mcintyre worked a scoreless inning with two strikeouts. The Houston Apollos defeated the Salina Stockade 7-5 on another beautiful day in Houston, Texas. Aaron Ford started for the Apollos throwing two scoreless innings striking out four hitters. Zech Zinecola pitched three innings allowing two runs and picking up the win. Julian Tejada pitched one inning allowing one run. Bryan Kloppe pitched the 7th allowing two runs to preserve the win.

Jack Finnegan started and pitched the first inning for the Stockade allowing one run while striking out two. Chance Miranda pitched 3-1/3 innings throwing 76 pitches allowing four runs. He struck out 4 and walked 4. He took the loss. Mason Smith pitched one inning allowing 1 runs. Johnny Ramirez pitched 1-2/3 innings allowing 1 run.

The Apollos had a 2-0 lead in the 4th until Colton Lavergne hit a tying two run homer for the Stockade. The Apollos would score 3 runs in the top of the 5th with Zech Zinecolas double and Taylor Downeys single. Downey finished 2-3. Rami Jadallah also had a key RBI single to finish 1-1 on the day.

Jake Gonzalez led Salina offensively, going 3-for-3 with a home run, one run and two RBI. Colton Lavergne added two hits and an RBI, while Johnny Ramirez had a double and an RBI. Jose Reyes and Dan Williams each scored twice, and Reyes drove in a run.

Salina added three runs in the sixth inning and another in the seventh after taking a 4-1 lead in the third. Houston scored once in the third and once in the sixth. Gonzalez earned the win after pitching four innings with one hit allowed, two runs, two earned runs, six walks and six strikeouts. Kyle Porter opened for Salina with two scoreless innings and five strikeouts, while Houston starter Brett Marshall took the loss after allowing four runs, two earned, on three hits in 2.2 innings.

The Stockade overcame a 10-7 deficit after seven innings to complete the comeback. Great Bend built an early advantage with three runs in the first inning and added single runs in the second and fourth before breaking through for five runs in the sixth. Salina scored once in the first, fifth and sixth innings, then cut the gap with a four-run seventh before its decisive ninth-inning outburst. D. Clark and T. Zeutenhorst each had two hits and three RBI for Salina. Clark scored once, while Zeutenhorst also contributed a double. P. Pena added two hits and one RBI, and R. February 28 2019 The Bakersfield Blues defeated the Salina Stockade 14-9 after breaking open a scoreless game with a 12-run third inning at Historic Sam Lynn Ballpark. Bakersfield finished with nine hits and overcame two errors while Salina also collected nine hits and committed one error.

Salina scored once in the third and twice in the fifth before adding four runs in the sixth to cut into Bakersfield’s lead. The Stockade scored once in each of the eighth and ninth innings, but the Blues added single runs in the fourth and eighth to maintain control. Bakersfield’s 12-run third was the decisive turning point.

Ruben Navarro led Bakersfield with two hits and two RBI. Ian Bojorquez and Spencer Strong each drove in two runs, while Logan Campbell also contributed a double and two RBI. For Salina, Luke Stewart went 2-for-2 with two RBI, and C. Fletcher collected a double and two RBI. R. Schwertfeger scored twice, drove in a run and stole three bases.

Campbell earned the win after allowing two hits and three runs, two earned, in five innings while striking out six and walking seven. Jacob Rodriguez took the loss for Salina after recording two outs and allowing seven runs on one hit with six walks. Bakersfield’s J. Ramirez worked two innings and allowed four runs while Salina’s C. Fletcher threw three scoreless innings with two strikeouts.

Trinidad scored seven runs in the first inning and three more in the second to take a 10-4 lead, but Salina answered with five runs in the seventh to tie the game before scoring once in the ninth for the winning margin. Salina finished with 10 hits and one error while Trinidad collected 12 hits and committed four errors.

Canice Ejoh led Salina with two hits and three runs scored. Jordan Anderson added a double, two runs and two RBIs, while Jesus Grimaldo had two hits and two RBIs. Taichi Nakamura drove in two runs, and Caleb Rosario, Enrique Batista and Will Hicks each contributed an RBI. For Trinidad, Anton Wheeler, Ozzie Millet, Zach May and Kyler LeRoux each recorded two hits. Mauritzio Autunmo drove in three runs, with Wheeler, Millet, May, Jordan Gonzalez and Keishaun Clark adding one RBI apiece.

Hicks earned the win after pitching all 10 innings for Salina, allowing 12 hits and 11 runs, including nine earned, while walking five and striking out 13. Trinidad used four pitchers, with Anthony Lee taking the loss after allowing two runs on one hit in three innings. JJ Potrikus held Salina scoreless over 3 1/3 innings, allowing one hit and striking out one, but Trinidad could not hold its early advantage.

February 24 2019 The Salina Stockade defeated the Bakersfield Blues 11-3 at Historic Sam Lynn Ballpark. Salina built an early lead with three runs in the first inning and two more in the third before breaking the game open with a five-run fifth. The Stockade added an insurance run in the ninth and finished with 11 runs on 11 hits, while Bakersfield totaled seven hits and committed five errors.

D. Clark led Salina’s offense by going 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. R. Schwertfeger added two hits and a run, while O. Artsen reached base four times with a hit and three walks, scored twice and stole three bases. T. Zeutenhorst, P. Pena and J. Tejada each drove in a run, and Salina collected doubles from Clark and Artsen.

Albert Neff earned the win for Salina after allowing three hits and one unearned run over six innings. He walked one and struck out six. A. Ramirez followed with a scoreless inning, while C. Fletcher and T. Edgar each worked one inning to finish the game.

Bakersfield scored once in the sixth, eighth and ninth innings. C. Poje, R. Navarro and C. Hollie each recorded two hits for the Blues, with doubles by Hollie and J. Ramirez. Jonathan Vance took the loss after surrendering seven hits and five runs in three innings.

Hollywood tied the game with two runs in the fourth, then broke it open with five runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth before adding another run in the ninth.

Hollywood collected 11 hits, led by A. Maltby, who went 3-for-6 with three runs and two RBI. N. Hoff scored three runs and added two hits and one RBI, while J. Pulcheon also had two hits and drove in a run. B. De Konig and J. Youngchild each added an RBI, with Youngchild collecting two RBI overall.

Devin Alexander earned the win for Hollywood, while Trevor Wick recorded the save. Donald Robertson was charged with the loss for Great Bend, which finished with six hits and four errors. The Stars committed one error in the victory.

Bakersfield broke a scoreless tie with three runs in the fourth inning and added two more in the fifth to take a 5-0 lead. Salina scored once in the fifth and once in the ninth, but could not complete the comeback.

R. Garza went 2-for-4 with two runs for Bakersfield, while A. Stublefield also had two hits and scored once. J. Payano delivered two RBI on a 2-for-3 performance, and C. Poje, N. Thompson and S. Strong each drove in a run. Bakersfield totaled five RBI and had one extra-base hit, a double by Stublefield.

L. Campbell earned the win after allowing one hit and one run over five innings with five strikeouts. J. Ramirez followed with three scoreless innings, allowing no hits while striking out two, and C. Kelly worked the ninth. Salina starter E. Nakagawa took the loss after surrendering eight hits and five runs over five innings, with two earned runs and two strikeouts.

Hollywood scored once in the first inning and three times in the second before adding another run in the fourth. Salina answered with two runs in the sixth and one in the eighth but could not complete the comeback. Hollywood also scored in the eighth inning.

J. Pulcheon delivered a home run and three RBI for Hollywood. N. Hoff added two hits and three RBI while R. Kerr went 2-for-3 with a double a triple two runs scored and three RBI. R. Matchett also collected two hits. Salina received two hits from O. Artsen who stole two bases while D. Clark scored twice. R. Schwertfeger drove in two of Salina’s three runs.

D. Wanner Jr. earned the win for Hollywood after allowing five hits and two runs over seven innings. He struck out seven and walked one. T. Klein recorded the save with two innings of relief allowing two hits and one run while striking out two. Salina starter A. Neff took the loss after surrendering seven hits and five earned runs in five innings with seven strikeouts and three walks.

Hollywood finished without an error while Salina committed one error. The Stars improved to 8-0-0 while the Stockade fell to 3-5-0.

Great Bend scored once in the first inning and added a run in the fifth before breaking a 2-2 tie with two runs in the eighth and two more in the ninth. Salina scored once in the fifth, twice in the sixth, and once in each of the final two innings, but could not complete the comeback.

Thomas Nelson earned the win for Great Bend, Charlie Fletcher took the loss, and Chuck Rocker recorded the save. Tani T had two hits, one run and one RBI, while M Ramsey also collected two hits and one RBI. K Guzman drove in two runs, and S Stetson added a two-RBI hit as a pinch hitter. For Salina, O Artsen went 2-for-4 with two runs, D Clark had two hits and one RBI, and P Pena contributed two RBI.

February 7 2019 The Salina Stockade defeated the Bakersfield Blues 8-3 after breaking open a close game with four runs in the eighth inning and two more in the ninth. Salina finished with six hits while Bakersfield collected three.

Salina took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, and the Blues answered with one run in the fourth. Each team scored once in the seventh before the Stockade surged ahead in the eighth. Salina’s T. Zeutenhorst hit a home run and drove in three runs, while P. Pena added a double and one RBI. Zeutenhorst finished with two hits, and D. Clark scored twice and drew two walks.

A. Neff earned the win for Salina with seven innings of three-hit ball, allowing two runs, one earned, while striking out 10 and walking one. C. Fletcher followed with a scoreless eighth inning and one strikeout. B. Isaac took the loss for Bakersfield after allowing four runs on one hit and four walks in one inning.

C. Poje led Bakersfield with two hits, two runs and one RBI. The Blues also received RBI from R. Navarro and C. Kelly, but Salina’s late scoring completed the 8-3 victory.
